You are a treasure hunter from another land. That's been fixed, so the player can now complete the hack in its entirety. The original version of the hack was perfect except for one game-breaking bug – it was impossible to finish Level 3 in the first quest. It's a very well-made hack, and would have made a worthy sequel to the original game if it had been done back in the day.

This hack was made by one Lord Steak years ago. Instead of numbered levels, the dungeons are identified by symbols of the zodiac, another interesting twist. It is superbly designed, and won't bore the player. The overworld is completely revamped, with few if any recognizable landmarks or routes from the original game. In a novel twist, the player must guide Princess Zelda on a quest to rescue Link from the forces of evil. Shin Zelda Densetsu is a complete hack of The Legend of Zelda. Link has become very skilled in his familiar world of Hyrule, but skill alone is his only advantage - the land of the Outlands is a beautiful yet deadly world bearing no resemblance to his own cherished kingdom. Zelda herself will make appearances to help the hero, providing items and sage advice crucial to the new journey. His adventure will span 18 new dungeons hidden within a completely unfamiliar terrain. Link will face dangers and traps unlike anything Ganon had ever devised.
In a world similar to yet completely different from The Legend of Zelda, Link must track down the captured Tetrarch Fairies and, with their help, break open Ganon's secret golden vault where the creature now resides. Having lost the Triforce of Courage at the hands of its adversary, it has stolen the Triforce of Power and flown to the vast neighbor of Hyrule, the Outlands. The Thunderbird, a horrible guardian encountered by Link in the Great Palace of The Adventure of Link, has somehow survived and is out for revenge. If you want to try it, I would only do so on an emulator with unlimited save state slots, and I would also download dungeon maps.
But unfortunately, its dungeon design is so poor and its difficulty is so cheap and unbalanced that I'd have a really hard time recommending it. The game has many redeeming qualities (nice graphics, completely overhauled overworld, etc.). For example, the first dungeon (1) requires a 20-minute swordless trek through enemy-filled overworld and caves to find, (2) has a random, nonsensical layout, (3) has no map, (4) requires you to backtrack through the entire thing 2-3 times, (5) gives you no hints about where to go or what to do next, (6) requires you to beat it without a sword or any other offensive items, (7) is filled with soldiers that run faster than you (almost guaranteeing you'll get hit), and (8) does not allow you to save, thus resetting you to the beginning of the game if you die (which you will-multiple times). Having played it, I can confirm that it is very hard-but not in a well-designed way-and therefore very frustrating. Xpost from another parallel worlds thread from 18 hours ago:
